Obedience Training

by chris

The Rockingham Dog Club is a friendly, all breeds accepted, dog club.
We are affiliated with the Canine Association of WA and as such we endeavour to teach dog owners the ins and outs of dog training to a high standard. This standard is such that when you have completed Class Four, you should be able to trial your dog in CAWA sanctioned Trial events.
Having said this, most of our members come first and foremost, with the idea to teach their dog to walk calmly beside them when its time for their exercise. And that is a great start! (This would generally take you up to Class Two)

We train in eight week blocks (during the hot summer months on Wednesday nights, during the cool winter months on Sunday mornings) after which you will be given an opportunity to enter our Graduation Trial. If you pass this Trial you are eligible to go up a class and continue learning new and challenging exercises for you and your dog.
Our classes consist of: Puppies (all dogs under the age of 6 months)
Beginners (6 months and over- currently we have 3 Beginner Classes)
Class One
Class Two
Class Three
Class Four
Class Five (Specifically for those who are trialling their dog and moving on to gain their next title)

You might ask, what’s this about titles?
You can gain titles for your dog by attending the CAWA sanctioned Trial days; although you need to become a financial member of the CAWA before you can enter a trial.
The very first title you can obtain for your dog is the Community Companion Dog (CCD). You need to gain three passes in three different Trials in order to obtain the CCD Title.
But this is not the end of it. Once your dog has this title, he can go and try for the next one which is Companion Dog (CD) and Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) and Utility Dog (UD), Utility Dog Excellent (UDX) and finally the big one: Obedience Champion!(OCH)
So you see, in the sport of “obedience training” you can go a long way!
It is a great challenge to see how well you can train your four legged companion and it is good fun too, provided you can keep the “fun” in your training!
